I sense a soul in search of mana.
Do you ever get the feeling that writing is represented as the hardest and most important part of game development? According to other writers anyway.
Since that article is full of useless pay per word nothingness here’s a suggestion. Take a fucking step back and accept that writing is but a small part of games.
With that in mind why not accept the role of straight man to the players avatar of chaos, they will create the humour, you don’t need to.
That’s why there is no big comedy game category, it’s implicit in most games. Even the ones with surprise aushwitz endings. It’s a natural result of repetition. Drama does not survive excessive repetitions, it always gets warped into comedy.
Rosebud makes Orson Wells giggle then demand more wenches and mead from here to eternity.
Cheese and corny jokes survive repetition, cheese and corny jokes are what writers are rallying against, yet in many cases, its exactly what is needed.
I suggest that people calling themselves games writers, or even games designers, should try and concentrate on what’s best for the end product, rather than what’s best for them.
